Science and Health: Soligo Milk is a natural source of Iodine

Latteria Soligo is the first Italian company authorized to use the claim “Milk natural source of iodine”

Milk is the food closest to the concept of a complete food, as it contains all the macronutrients essential for life: calcium, phosphorus, protein and, above all, iodine.

This is what emerged from the studies supported in the last three years by the Veneto Region and the University of Padua with the exclusive collaboration of Latteria Soligo, a cooperative company with over 140 years of history.

Latteria Soligo was founded in 1883 as a Cooperative Agricultural Society, managing to combine high quality production with the care of animals, the protection of the territory and the fair remuneration of breeders. A winning recipe that has led Latteria Soligo to be one of the most important producers on the Veneto market with 160 stables in the Treviso area, 4 factories and 900 thousand quintals of milk processed per year. A giant that has never lost sight of ethics: thanks to the virtuous practices of the circular economy of a peasant and cooperative nature, Latteria Soligo’s products preserve the genuineness of their origins and a healthiness guaranteed by strict safety protocols and constant traceability.

A commitment to the consumer that Latteria Soligo also honours through studies on proper nutrition, as
evidenced by the study by the University of Padua, whose researchers have shown how the specification of
the entire Latteria Soligo supply chain, starting with the members of the cooperative, contributes decisively
to the production of milk capable of satisfying the daily needs of fundamental elements for human health,
First of all, iodine.

A result destined to change forever the perception of an often demonized food.

The activities conducted by the DAFNAE and DIMED Departments of the University of Padua, in fact,
focused on the presence of iodine in Soligo milk, also evaluating the effects of the different processes on
the product.

It emerged that Latteria Soligo’s cow’s milk is a natural source of iodine, a fundamental element for the hormonal sphere and human health, in particular for the well-being of the thyroid, the deficiency of which leads to very serious problems, real social diseases that today affect a considerable portion of the population. Yet, as researchers have shown, a few simple dietary measures would be enough to reduce the frequency of these diseases.

Iodine, in fact, can only be obtained with food and the best allies are iodized salt and milk, whose daily
consumption (one cup) provides about half of the iodine needed in adulthood and about a third of what is
needed during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children.

A result that rewards Latteria Soligo, which has always been committed to research to guarantee the
consumer quality, good, healthy and “perfect” products, as required by the company statute.

A commitment thanks to which Soligo – the first and only dairy in Italy – will now be able to identify its
packaging with the claim “Milk is a natural source of iodine”.
