Galletto Vallespluga: Tradition and Innovation in the Heart of the Alps

Since 1946, Galletto Vallespluga has been synonymous with quality and sustainability, embodying a production model that combines innovation with respect for the land. The company was founded in post-war Italy by Dante Milani, who transformed a small mill into a pioneering poultry farming business. In 1958, the first free-range farms were established, ahead of their time in terms of animal welfare. In 1967, Vallespluga Spa was officially founded in Gordona, Valchiavenna, setting the stage for its international expansion.

A major milestone was reached in 1972 with the introduction of the Galletto Scudetto Rosso, a premium product recognized for its quality and taste, winning the Premio Qualità Italia award. Since then, the company has remained committed to a short and controlled supply chain, ensuring safety and traceability. The Alpine-based farms follow a sustainable model where the chickens grow in a healthy environment, fed with selected, antibiotic-free feeds. After hatching at the Carpaneto Piacentino incubator, the chicks are raised to develop the distinctive characteristics of Galletto Vallespluga.

Processing takes place at the Valchiavenna facility, ensuring a fresh and authentic-tasting product. This vertically integrated structure allows for shorter production-to-consumer times, a key competitive advantage in today’s sustainability-focused market. The company has also invested in renewable energy, using photovoltaic and biogas plants to reduce its environmental impact, converting poultry litter into clean energy.

In 2022, the Galletto Scudetto Rosso was officially recognized as a Historic Brand of National Interest, solidifying its status as an icon of Italian excellence. Today, Vallespluga has expanded internationally and is developing new product lines with innovative solutions for both retail and the food service industry. “Our goal is to continue offering a unique product that tells our story and reflects our commitment,” says Dante Milani, General Manager of the company. A success story that seamlessly blends tradition and future, while maintaining a strong bond with its Alpine heritage.
