V-Label Vegan Category And ISO 9001:2015 Certifications For Rainforest Chicza

Rainforest Chicza S.A. de C.V. continues to invest in food safety guaranteeing the highest quality of the raw materials used to produce Chicza, the real Maya chewing-gum, to the entire supply chain.

In July 2020 Rainforest Chicza obtains the V-Label certification for the Vegan category, approved by the major European Veg associations. This document not only provides the criteria for awarding the trademark, but above all offers a clear and unambiguous definition of vegetarian and vegan in order to eliminate any doubts about the suitability of the product by making the difference be- tween the two categories distinct. The V-Label certification carries out real checks for each approved reference and the criteria are updated to comply as closely as possible with the legal regulations in force, as well as being in step with new production technologies in the field of food and cosmetics.

Another great result is the achievement of the ISO 9001:2015 certification in September 2020 by the Ac- credited Body IMNC, “Instituto Mexicano de Normalización y Certificación AC”, with more than 25 years of experience in contributing to the strengthening of companies in various issues about certification. The new ISO 9001:2015 certification is a further added value for Chicza and assures the Customer and all final Consumers that the standards used within the company respect the rules defined by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).’

Thanks to the activity of the Chicleros, the true guardians of the Selva Maya, is preserved the 2nd largest forest on the American Continent, considered one of the green lungs of our planet after the Amazon forest. Besides chewing Chicza will drastically reduce the environmental pollution caused by conventional chewing-gum employing from 5 to 7 years to biodegrade in the environment. In fact according to official data of an authoritative study carried out by Comieco in collabo- ration with the GMI (Green Management Institute) only in Italy are 23 thousand tons of waste that are generally not correctly disposed and abandoned on the streets every year. And all this would have a cost for the municipal administrations, if forced to intervene, equal to 16,4 billions euros of public money only to remove those odious multicolored spots that are seen in the squares, sidewalks and streets of many cities.

Chicza chewing-gum is distributed in Italy and Portugal by EcolBio Srl, a company certified organic by Suolo e Salute Control Body. “We believed in the product right from the start when it was not yet marketed, contacting the producers in 2009. It was necessary to make a large investment and an important marketing strategy following the evolution of the product at 360 degrees” explains Marco Di Giacomo, one of the members of EcolBio. “Being the first to make consumers appreciate a new brand always requires great passion and determination, the first years were difficult, the results were slow in coming, but we insisted because we believed and still believe in the quality of the product but above all in those behind it, in the producers”.

Chicza chewing-gum is available in a 30 gram format, containing 12 squares, distributed in natural food stores and organic supermarkets, and in the 4-gram format, containing 2 squares, ideal for Hotels, Spa, kiosks, offices and bars. The tastes currently on the market, all strictly organic certified, are Mint, Lime, Mixed Berry, Spearmint, Cinnamon and the new Coffee flavor. The ingredients present in Chicza are organic gum base, organic evaporated sugar cane juice in powder, organic glucose, organic Agave syrup and various organic flavours.

But the absolute novelty will be the imminent launch on the market of the new sugar-free format in Mint and Lime flavors, which will once again be the first and only chewing-gum in the world certified organic, 100% biodegradable and sugar-free!
