Once upon a time... in Valtellina... a dreamer

That dreamer is Marcel Zanolari, a wine grower from Valtellina with an unbridled passion for his work, for nature and for his land.

We are in the splendid Valtellina where Marcel, first a pioneer of organic and then of BIODYNAMIC winemaking in this territory, works in the family business and continues the work begun in the 1980s by his parents. Some define him as an “experimenter”, others as an “artist”, but perhaps the expression that best defines and identifies him is “crazy dreamer”.

In addition to the classic Nebbiolo, other varieties more unusual for the Valtellina are also cultivated on the estate: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Blanc, Moscato, Traminer, as well as around 115 resistant varieties (PIWI).

The aim that animates the company is to express in their wines the AUTHENTIC flavours and EMOTIONS of their land, preserving as much as possible what it has to offer. For Marcel and his team, sustainability in agriculture is not a word to be “sold” or a pretext for approval, but a concrete and unavoidable reality. wine

Marcel’s experiments do not only concern “the vineyard” with the adoption of the Biodynamic philosophy on the soil and the introduction of different vine varieties, but also involve the winery where perhaps his “artistic flair” has its highest expression.

This is where Marcel pampers his wines; the ageing takes place not only in used barriques, but also in cement and clay ANFORE which give the wine its uniqueness and particularity without affecting its ORIGINAL CHARACTER, but enhancing its expression.

In the cellar, too, there is the utmost respect for natural times; no process is forced: fermentation with natural yeasts, long maceration with the skins, minimal addition or no addition of sulphur.

To be of quality, Marcel Zanolari wine must first of all be “ALIVE” and maintain its vitality and originality in the bottle. “With our LIVE WINES, we want you to discover our world, our philosophy, our way of understanding viticulture”.
