Tradition, quality and passion since 1987

Founded in 1987 in the renowned town of Altamura, known as the “City of Bread”, Bontà di Altamura was born from the entrepreneurial passion of Giuseppe Clemente with the aim of spreading the excellence of Apulian gastronomic tradition throughout Italy.

Altamura is famous worldwide for its Pane di Altamura DOP, the first bakery product in Europe to obtain the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) from the European Union in 2003. This recognition guarantees authenticity, quality and a strong connection with the territory.

Starting from this excellence, over the years Bontà di Altamura has developed into a dynamic and reliable company, capable of bringing bread, focaccia and typical regional products to Italian tables, carefully selected from the best producers of the territory.

The company’s mission is clear: to promote and spread the traditional recipes of Altamura and the Apulia region, always placing quality, authenticity and respect for ancient artisanal processes at the center.

Thanks to an efficient organizational structure and a widespread logistics network, the company is now able to supply hundreds of retail outlets with punctuality, ensuring a professional and reliable service.

Pane di Altamura PDO – The Symbol of Tradition

Pane di Altamura PDO represents one of the most authentic symbols of the agropastoral culture of the Alta Murgia region. Traditionally prepared in local homes and baked in the town’s public ovens, it is still produced today following a strict production specification that guarantees quality and authenticity.

The ingredients are simple and natural:

• re-milled durum wheat semolina

• water

• salt

• natural sourdough starter

The natural sourdough gives the bread an intense aroma, high digestibility and long shelf life.

Pane di Altamura is produced in two traditional shapes:

Sckuanète – the characteristic folded shape

Cappidd d’prèvte – the lower and more traditional shape

During baking, the crust becomes golden and crispy, while the inside remains soft and fragrant.

A Strong Commercial Network

Over the years, Bontà di Altamura has built a solid commercial presence in Central Italy, supplying more than 700 retail outlets in the Lazio region. The company collaborates with important players in the Large-Scale Retail Distribution (GDO) sector, including: Conad Nord Ovest / Unicoop Etruria / Carrefour / PAC 2000A Conad / Spazio Conad / Super Elite / CRAI Tirreno / Decò Supermercati / Top Supermercati / CTS Supermercati / Ipercarni Supermercati / Iper Triscount Supermercati / Supermercati Sacoph

Bontà di Altamura Today Tradition, innovation and service guide the company’s growth:

• selection of the best local producers

• respect for traditional Apulian recipes

With the same spirit with which it was founded in 1987, Bontà di Altamura continues to grow, bringing every day to Italian tables the authentic taste of Apulian tradition and the excellence of Italian gastronomy.
