Mother-in-law’s tongues: the crunchy bread that conquered the world!

Who would have ever thought that an idea born for fun would have become an icon of artisan breadmaking? The Lingue di Suocera (mother-in-law’s tongues) were born in 1993 from the creativity of Mario Fongo, on the advice of his friend and well-known winemaker Giacomo Bologna.

What was the idea? To create a long, thin and incredibly crispy sheet of bread, perfect to enjoy on any occasion.

But the brilliant idea was the name! It was suggested by Vittoria, Mario’s wife, who suggested it, smiling and exclaiming: “We’ll call them Lingue di Suocera, because only mothers-in-law have such a long tongue!” And so, with a touch of irony and a lot of flavour, a brand was born that was destined to leave its mark.

Perfect as they are or as an accompaniment to cheeses, cured meats and gourmet appetizers, Lingue di Suocera have been able to conquer the most demanding palates, becoming a symbol of Italian gastronomic excellence.

Their success has been such that today’s production has expanded with a variety of irresistible flavours: in addition to the classic version, we find those with rosemary, chili pepper, taggiasche olives, parmesan cheese, fleur de sel, sesame, whole wheat and even with Tropea red onion.

Thanks to their unique crunchiness and unmistakable flavour, Lingue di Suocera have conquered not only Italy, but also the whole world, becoming a product loved by chefs and cooking enthusiasts. And to think that it all started from a playful idea and a great passion for traditional craftsmanship.

Today, Mario Fongo’s son Giovanni and his wife Marta also work together, enthusiastically carrying on the family tradition and continuing to innovate to always offer new flavours and combinations.

Lingue di Suocera are a registered trademark and an Italian excellence that never ceases to surprise and delight. If you haven’t tried them yet, it’s time to let yourself be won over by their unique and irresistible taste!
