MEDI: TODAY’S CONSUMERS PAY ATTENTION TO THE ORIGIN OF RAW FOODSTUFFS AND THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THEIR CHOICES MORE THAN EVER BEFORE.

We could not be more pleased!

Confusion has reigned in the fishing industry and market for far too long. Whilst these days, consumers are more aware and mindful of the issues surrounding sustainability and the origins of the catch, we, at Medi however, have long since opted for transparency.

All phases of production performed at the Medi Srl production facility are effectively checked and certified to be in compliance with the procedures defined and established in the HACCP manuals and have been certified by BRCGS, IFS, ASCFOS, MSC and QCM.

Among the certifications cited above, Medi has decided to also affix its own quality seal, the QCM, conceived to ascertain that its products have unequivocally and transparently met the highest standards of quality control. Although, for quite some time now, in fact, each fully documented step of the company’s altogether traceable production supply chain has been clearly discernible, today, product quality is also guaranteed and easily recognisable thanks to the ‘Qualità Certificata Medi’ [Medi Certified Quality] mark, which is plainly visible on each product. The Medi Quality mark demonstrates that the company has decisively taken responsibility for meeting consumers’ expectations for the quality and wholesomeness of the products they buy and eat.

BRCGS: [British Retailers Consortium Global Standard] The BRCGS for Food Safety was established in 1998 to ensure that branded products would be produced in accordance with well defined quality standards and in full compliance with all minimum requirements. This standard could be likened to a specification that binds qualified suppliers to the distribution company. The BRCGS is one of the food safety standards recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an international measure whose main aim is the promotion and strengthening of food safety throughout the entire supply chain. Therefore, application of the BRC Global Standard has become a prerequisite for being permitted to export one’s own products, whilst also being acknowledged as a guarantee of corporate reliability.

IFS: the International Food Standard has the purpose of facilitating the effective selection of branded food suppliers for large-scale retailers, based on their ability to provide safe products that comply with contractual specifications and the law. This is a model that has been recognised throughout Europe and around the globe.

MSC-FOS certifications – The Marine Stewardship Council and Friend of the Sea accreditations ensure that seafood products from fisheries are managed responsibly and sustainably. This certification has now become a critical issue. Currently, the livelihoods of more than three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity. Whilst the oceans are the world’s largest source of protein, they represent the main food resource for more than 2.5 billion people. Marine fisheries directly or indirectly employ over 200 million people. Oceans make up 97% of the Earth’s water and at the same time absorb about 30% of the carbon dioxide produced by human activity. The only way to continue to benefit from these resources is to respect and protect the oceans.

ASC: The Aquaculture Stewardship Council, which is a global, independent, non-profit international organisation, was founded in 2010 with the aim of developing and managing responsible aquaculture standards for fish farm certification. The organisation’s objective is to provide for the enjoyment of seafood products by our future heirs and to maintain the oceans stocked with sea life today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

All of us here at Medi are certain that a sustainable fresh fish and seafood market is of primary importance for this vision to become a reality. We are committed to providing the company’s R&D division with all the tools it needs so that all our products today and those of tomorrow will be able to keep this promise.

The MEDI company, with registered offices in Anzio (RM), has been operating in the frozen fish and seafood industry for two decades. The business is one of the Italian companies that best represents the strengths of its competence and knowhow in the field of seafood products, due to its ability to meet its customers’ most demanding requirements whilst protecting the environment, biodiversity and eco-sustainability.

The company’s production lines have been specifically designed, developed and laid out according to a virtuous production process. Hence, Medi Srl offers fresh-frozen fish and mixed seafood, sauces and ready meals (for both starters and main courses), wrapped in pouches and/or second skin effect packages with labels or in boxes.

Medi manages a production unit, for the processing, packaging, and marketing of processed and unprocessed seafood products, for both the retail and catering markets.

The production facility is in the municipality of Controguerra (TE), on the Tronto plain (between the Marche and Abruzzo Regions). Among the many services we offer, many of which are directed to outsourcer processing, all convey the highest B2B safety and quality standards.
