A history spanning sixty years

AIFE is a supply chain association that has represented professional producers and processors of dried fodder for 60 years:

• 90% of the Italian supply chain;

• 1,000,000 tons / year equal to 10% of the Italian forage production;

• Harvesting area: 90,000 hectares (10% of the national area of alfalfa – Istat data);

• Production areas: Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Veneto, Lombardy, Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo and Tuscany;

• Processing plants: about 50;

• Average number of stakeholders: 13,000 of which 900 employees, 8,000 farmers, 4,000 subcontractors and suppliers;

• 6 Italian ports involved with all maritime navigation allied businesses;

• Turnover of 250 million euros.

The Quality of AIFE Members’ products:

• integrated and controlled supply chain;

• health standards of products and traceability of the supply chain;

• low environmental impact crop in marginal areas of the territory.

In the fields: no use of water resources, crop rotation, GMO-free product.

Processing and transformation phase: elimination of foreign bodies (metals, stones, soil), sanitization of the product by means of a minimum temperature of 100°C supplied by natural gas, exemption from molds and anomalous fermentations, stabilization of the product, validated HACCP system by the Italian Ministry of Health.

Storage and conservation phase: storage in suitable premises as per health regulations; final analytical control for product classification; conservation control with temperature monitoring.
