The Consorzio Vini Mantovani, is guardian of ancient viticultural traditions in Mantua, the city heritage of UNESCO.
The tradition of Mantuan wines has a millenary history, as witnessed by the Roman poet Publius Virgil Maron who wrote about it “selvatica vitis labrusca”, more than two thousand years ago. Today it is the Consorzio Vini Mantovani (Consortium of Mantuan Wines) to valorize Mantuan viticulture, thanks to a precious chain of farms and cooperatives evolved with refined production techniques and capable of very high quality levels.
Consorzio Vini Mantovani safeguards the Lambrusco Mantovano DOC and Garda Colli Mantovani DOC denominations, as well as the 4 IGT denominations, in an area of over 1,800 hectares of vineyards.
The geological complexity of the province of Mantua gives origin to an interesting variety in the wine production which identifies two distinct terroirs. In the north of the province, Colli Mantovani represents the south-eastern morainic amphitheater which closes the Garda basin with mild climate and excellent exposition.
They are known for fine wines and passito wines that combine great international grape varieties with native ones.
While in the south, in the Po Valley, reigns the production of the Mantuan flagship wine: the Lambrusco Mantovano. Full-bodied and authentic, it has the unique features conferred by the clayey and rich in humidity soils, residue of the conspicuous reclamation works carried out over time.
