The Santa Margherita Terra e Sole Cooperative is an important reality in Sardinia’s. The Cooperative is an example of a farm enterprise managed with far-sightedness and efficiency, one that has succeeded in dealing with the changes in techniques and markets. Attualmente la Cooperativa S. Margherita Terra e Sole è composta di 180 soci che operano con circa 80 ettari di strutture serricole situate prevalentemente nella zona di S. Margherita di Pula, nella Sardegna meridionale. Altri 500 ettari, dislocati in diverse aree dell’isola, sono dedicati alla coltivazione del carciofo. L’esperienza di questi quindici anni di attività, è un’avventura straordinaria della quale è esaltante ripercorrere le tappe. Un dinamico operare per adeguare in tempi rapidissimi gli orientamenti di Marketing, le strutture, l’organizzazione tecnica e le tipologie di produzione al mutare delle condizioni di mercato. La decisione forte di imporci un’autolimitazione quantitativa a vantaggio di un’elevata qualità e la scelta di coltivare esclusivamente in suolo. La volontà caparbia e rigorosa di trovare soluzioni che, basandosi sull’impiego di tecniche agronomiche all’avanguardia, consentissero di limitare l’uso di prodotti chimici, portando ad un miglioramento della qualità del prodotto nel rispetto dell’ambiente e della salute del consumatore. For us, quality is of the utmost importance and it is for this reason that we have chosen to organize our work, both in the farms of our partners and the Cooperative’s plant, in accordance with a certified quality control system following ISO 9001 specifications. We also apply a system for traceability from start to finish which we voluntarily have certified by an independent organization in conformity with the UNI 10939 regulations. All this makes it possible for us to keep products under control throughout the entire cycle, from the greenhouse to when they leave the warehouse, while receiving timely information and being able to intervene when necessary. The objective of producing with the highest priority given to consumers’ health and respect for the environment has led to the decision to grow our produce with integrated defence methods, an agricultural technique that exploits natural resources and the regulatory mechanisms of ecosystems, thus keeping the use of chemicals to a minimum.
