Dolci Evasioni: Typical Sicilian Organic And Solidarity Products

Dolci Evasioni (sweet escapes in Italian) are typical Sicilian products resulting from a solidarity project managed by L’Arcolaio, a social cooperative that for over 15 years has been building social and work integration paths for prisoners, young immigrants and other disadvantaged people.

In our laboratory located inside the Syracuse prison a team including about ten inmates produces with passion and care organic and gluten-free confectionery products. The ingredients used come from local farms and from fair trade. Our recipes are genuine and are based on a few quality ingredients, free from preservatives and artificial colors. What also makes our Dolci Evasioni so delicious are the excellences of our territory that we include and enhance in our product line: almonds, citrus fruits, carobs, Ispica sesame (slow food presidium), wild fennel… each of our products preserves and tells our Sicily.

Dolci Evasioni also uses raw materials from Frutti degli Iblei, the social agriculture project by L’Arcolaio that managed to recover some uncultivated land located in the heart of the Iblei Mountains. On these uncontaminated hills we organically cultivate Mediterranean aromatic plants, such as thyme, sage, and oregano, and carefully harvest wild fennel, calendula and other spontaneous varieties typical of the Iblei. In the nearby laboratory we dry and pack our herbs, but also vegetables and fruit from small local farmers, whose work we aim to promote by building collaborative networks.

Dolci Evasioni include natural and toasted almonds, baked products such as almond pastes and gluten-free cookies, dried herbs and vegetables, and condiments such as flavored salts and pesto. Among the latest products included in the catalog, cookies with carob flour and cinnamon, gomasio with Ispica sesame Slow Food presidium and aromatic herbs, and wild fennel pesto.
