Black Sea & Balkans Strengthen Their Strategic Position in Global Grain Trade — BBS Grain 2026 to Take Place in Istanbul

The III International Conference Balkans & Black Sea (BBS) Grain 2026 will be held on September 22, 2026, bringing together traders, producers, logisticians, port operators and analysts from the Danube region, the Balkans, the CIS, the EU and MENA.

Previous BBS Grain conferences attracted more than 350 delegates from over 30 countries. In 2026, the event will expand both its geography and professional representation.

The Black Sea region remains one of the key global sources of wheat and vegetable oil supplies to the Middle East and North Africa, including Egypt, Algeria and Iran, as well as to Turkey. At the same time, demand in MENA and Turkey increasingly depends not only on price competitiveness, but also on procurement mechanisms, trade regulations and logistics efficiency.

Recent regulatory adjustments — including Turkey’s decision to ease restrictions and introduce duty-free wheat imports for millers under a processing regime — have intensified competition both within the Black Sea and Balkan regions and among external suppliers investing in regional trade and infrastructure.

The conference will serve as a focused platform for discussing structural changes in export flows and regional trade strategies.

Key discussion topics include:

• Harvest forecasts and grain quality expectations in exporting countries;

• MENA markets: demand structure, purchasing practices and supplier competition;

• Regulatory, logistical, freight and currency factors affecting exports;

• The role of rail, sea and river transport in grain and oilseed trade;

• Port infrastructure: capacity, bottlenecks and investment development.

Why Istanbul?

Located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Istanbul serves as a strategic hub connecting Black Sea exporters with Mediterranean and MENA markets, offering direct access to regional decision-makers and logistics operators.

BBS Grain 2026 aims not only to analyze market dynamics, but to facilitate practical agreements and strengthen trade cooperation across the Black Sea and Balkan regions.
