Consorzio Cerasuolo Di Vittoria

CERASUOLO DI VITTORIA GCDO: THE ONLY GCDO WINE OF SOUTHERN ITALY   The Consortium for the protection of “Cerasuolo di Vittoria GCDO (recognised by Ministerial Decree of 24 January 2001) takes care of safeguarding and promoting this wine, the only GCDO wine of southern Italy. A wine which owes its preciousness to a propitious climate and to a diligent cultivation activity by a few impassioned operators as well as to the virtues (high quality) of its grape varieties (Nero d’Avola and Frappato di Vittoria (used with a percentage from 50% to 70% and from 30% to 50% respectively). The Consortium  represents about 85 % of the producers of the provinces of Ragusa, Catania and Caltanissetta, namely the production areas for “Cerasuolo di Vittoria” wine. Therefore, this organisation carries out a constant control activity on the quality of the product and plays a key role in promoting this oenological pearl. With a typical cherry-red colour, a sweet and velvety taste, a fruity scent, it is the pride of many vine growers, winemakers and bottlers which in 2005 obtained the prestigious appellation for their own wines, both for Cerasuolo di Vittoria and Cerasuolo di Vittoria “Classico (Classic)”.   The current Governing Council is composed of Massimo Maggio (President),  Arianna Occhipinti (Vice President), Valentina Nicodemo, Guglielmo Manenti, Marco Calcaterra, Rosario Alescio and Francesco Ferreri  (Councillors). The current situation shows that it is a very competitive division and present on the market with a growing trend, both in planted areas and in bottled form. However, these excellent results are obtained through a combined action: on the one hand the improvements in the vineyards and on the other hand the considerable progress in the wineries with refi ned winemaking methods which allow to keep  in the wines the original characteristics of the grapes. “Cerasuolo di Vittoria” is an ancient wine able to attract also the modern  consumer’s attention.
